First Impression: Mushroomhead - Savior SorrowsI just got this CD, as it came out today, and I'm pretty impressed so far.
Mushroomhead have always been a great band that has had the burdon of being labeled as "Slipknot" ripoffs by those who don't really know who they are or what they are about. They've been doing the whole "wear creepy masks" thing for a long time, and are in no means anything that can be even remotely compared to Slipknot-- they are COMPLETELY different musically, the only shred of a similarity between the two bands is the fact that they both wear masks. Hey, I wear pants, so does George W. Bush, but I don't have a fucking thing in common with him. Get over it.
I really liked Mushroomhead's second release "XIII" (Thirteen), it was excellent lyrically, and didn't have any cookie-cutter or slack in the lyrics or vocals. There wasn't a single curse word on the entire CD, and yet, it was still really hard, and very deep. A great CD overal, with excellent tracks through and through. Instrumentals, vocals, lyrics, a complete package. A top 20, easily.
This newest release, Savior Sorrows, I have only had for a few hours, but it's already growing on me. It should be known that since the last release, one of Mushroomhead's vocalist has left the band and been replaced. The previous vocalist definitely had more power, but no harmonic capabilities whatsoever. Although I do miss the power of thier previous vocalist, this new secondary vocalist still has great power to his voice, and in addition, can sing melodically very well.
This gives the band a bit of extra depth, as the secondary vocalist contrasts the primary as he did before, but now also compliments him.Another major change in this album from the last is that the music seems to take the stage moreso than the vocals. The last album definitely showcased the lead singer's melodies and thier vast contrast with the heavy, low tone of thier secondary vocalist. This album sees the vocals blending in with the music, rather than standing infront of the instrumentals. This is something that at first, I did not like, but have grown to like in a few short hours.
Full review, recommendation, and key songs list when I feel I've listened to it "enough".

Although I can pretty much already say that I recommend it.
