It is romantic, but it also instills laughter in the same way that john McClane laughs hysterically after almost being blown up/shot at/killed in every Die Hard movie-- that is to say, sometimes when something sucks, you just have to laugh at it. Come on Andy, use them brains.

It is romantic, but it also instills laughter in the same way that john McClane laughs hysterically after almost being blown up/shot at/killed in every Die Hard movie-- that is to say, sometimes when something sucks, you just have to laugh at it. Come on Andy, use them brains. eh still more romantic and less comedic. i appreciate it, but many XKCD are simply romantic to me (not making them worse) and not as "punch-line funny". i understand the die-hard reference, but IMO it does not apply similarly here.

If you've been in a similar situation to what the author is implying, I can fully understand laughter as a reaction. It's not that the comic is being seen as "laughable", it's being seen as romantic just as you are saying, only, it induces laughter because of the way you relate to the subject.
