This comment was the final comment to push me over the edge on this topic.  Sorry Zakath, you are a tragic victim of circumstance.

Quote from: Zakath, after buying Windows Vista
"...i was expecting xp only flashyer but no... what i got was microsoft become total hypcrites just copying 70% of macantosh

dont get me wrong its not that i dont like it, i love it but they could have been more origional"

I am so sick of hearing the 10 million different reasons that every dumb ass in the world has to hate Vista:

"It copied Mac.
It's buggy.
User Account Control is annoying!
My old programs don't work!
It's... new!  And different!  AND WE DON'T LIKE IT!"

It doesn't really copy Mac at all, with the exception of the Gadgets, but Mac copied those off of third party programmers so who gives a shit.  "OH IT LOOKS LIKE A MAC OS!"  Newsflash, everyone and their mom is making cool, slick, shiney, transparent images these days, go to ANY FUCKING WEBSITE.  EVERYONE does it.  It's like the Brittany Spears of graphical design.

Mac fans are annoying, and so are people who complain about Windows Vista.  And Macs aren't more secure, it's just that no one fucking uses them, so no one programs viruses for them.  If you were a Virus programmer and you wanted to infect as many PC's as possible, would you program for the OS that is 90% of the market or the OS that is less than 10% of the market?  Easy answer, dick weeds, now shut the fuck up about your Mac security.  If you woke up tomorrow and Macintosh owned 90% of the OS market, you'd have 10 billion viruses in a matter of seconds without Anti Virus because your "Mac Security" would be as easy to get into as Bobby's sister's pants.

And regarding Windows XP fan boys... Vista is basically Windows XP but prettier and more practical, and it doesn't have 1/10th of the bugs that people say it does.  Even when I got Vista on THE DAY THAT IT CAME OUT, I had maybe 2 small problems, you can read about it in my long-assed Vista rant

Everyone praises XP, and rightfully so, but all of the people who are sitting around like dumb shits bashing Vista and saying how XP should still be the main OS are the VERY SAME DICK WADS who bashed XP forever and a day when it first came out because it had so many bugs.  XP was bugged out to hell for 2 fucking years, so bad that people were sticking with WINDOWS MILLENIUM when it first came out.  WINDOWS FUCKING MILLENIUM.  Newsflash, assholes, Vista is no where NEAR as buggy as XP when it first came out.  Vista was released at close to Service-Pack 2 compatibility, which is the update for XP that took 2 years to make and finally made the thing actually WORK.

And shut the fuck up about User Account Control.  You have no argument.

"OMFG EVERY TIME I CLICK SOMETHING, A MESSAGE POPS UP AND I HAVE TO CLICK 'CONTINUE' SO MY COMPUTER WILL DO WHAT I ASK!  SWEET JESUS NOOOOOO!"

Holy raping babies, batman!  Not a 'continue' dialog box!  There must be some other way!  Fucking click continue, it's not a big deal.  Or, you could just turn UAC off completely, and then Vista will work EXACTLY like XP, gasp!  All of the continue dialog boxes will be gone, so what the fuck are you complaining about?  If you don't like UAC, turn it off.  I do, and it's just as secure as XP.  If you want the extra security, turn it on.  Either way, shut the fuck up about UAC, there is no argument.

If you're programs don't work with Vista, they are fucking old and you need new ones.  Plain and simple.  I'm sorry that your Corel Word Perfect from 199X doesn't work, no, wait, I'm not.  Shut the fuck up.  Almost anything that was designed for XP will work with Vista, if there are problems, just set it to "XP compatability mode" and you're good to go.  This does not mean that an old crappy productivity program designed for 98 that RAN on XP will work with Vista.  If your productivity program has a Windows 98 sticker, stop eating dog shit for breakfast and buy a new program.

...and the argument of "my old games don't run on Vista" is also null.  I can run Diablo II, Baldur's Gate, and STARCRAFT on Windows Vista.  STARCRAFT, a game that lists "Made for Windows 95" on the front of the CD.  WHAT THE FUCK IS SO INCOMPATIBLE ABOUT VISTA?  If you're mad because your DOS game doesn't run on Vista, stop jerking off onto your Commodore64 and/or 386 system and buy a new PC.

As for the programs that WERE designed for XP but don't work for Vista, there's a good reason that they don't:  YOU DON'T FUCKING NEED THEM ANYMORE.  I don't give a shit that your old-assed Nero or older-assed Roxio doesn't work with Vista.  It doesn't work because Microsoft re-wrote the CD/DVD burning in Vista so that it natively supports DVD burning without any additional software, something that XP could not do.  Printers/Scanners don't work because you no longer NEED third party software to Scan, Vista can do it on its own.  So your 6 year old scanner with proprietary software won't work because scanning is now natively supported just like DVD burning.  THIS IS A GOOD THING.

Your old shit doesn't work because it's too old, or it isn't necessary any more.  If you really are too fucking retarded to use the built in DVD/CD burning, then go buy the new "Vista Ready" Nero and Roxio suits, and use them to do what you can already do with no additional software, because you need the security of the unnecessary.

In short, Windows Vista isn't any more buggy than any other Windows release, in fact it's LESS buggy than just about all of them.

SO SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT WINDOWS VISTA SUCKING.

Zakath like I said, this Rant isn't directed or inspired by you, and I'm not saying that you said anything other than what's quoted.  You were just the last beer can on a tall stack, so to speak.  Smiley

for someone who is not as nearly versed in computers as probably anyone here, vista works fine for me. I liked XP a lot, but i have no running or compatibility problems short of one game.
FYI Will,  it was baldur's gate and BGII that worked, not icewind dale (which is interesting because the icewind dale series is about 2 years newer than Baldur's Gate II)
i love willie!

oh, and p.s. i am trying to carry on with the praising of Vista to some of the dorm with me, but i find myself having to look up, or search for things to backup my argument because of my minor knowledge.

Good to know, I couldn't remember which it was.

Very Maddox-esqe post Willy. Good one.

As far as constantly being bombarded with UAC prompts, I have to assume that you're doing it wrong, because I don't get any. Never run as admin. When admin is needed, you will be prompted to run as admin.

I wasn't saying that I had problems with it, I was saying that other people make it out to be a big problem when it isn't.  And that even if you feel its a big problem, you can just turn it off.  Also thanks for the Props sir!
