So yesterday i went to sounds of the underground.

There was lots of awesome, and lots of suck (metal blade is 90% metalcore Sad )

First up were 2 Cents a semi thrash band, whos set i only caught the end of, but their song "Victims of Pop Culture" impressed me enough that i went over to their merch place and bought their album... which they all signed for me Cheesy

Next up was Goatwhore, my favorite band of the day (who i spent 65 bucks on merch from) their set was dissapointingly short, but i was front and center for their set and they were amazing. got the horns a few times from their singer. Later on i got a shirt, signature drumsticks and 3 cds of theirs signed by the whole band and got to have a chat and shake hands with all of them, which was fucking awesome. P.S. they have THE coolest shirts ever.

We then sat through half a dozen absolutely horrible bands, worst of which was the number 12 looks like you... who sound like a bunch of emo kids who decided 2 of them would scream incoherently into mics while the other 5 randomly picked up instruments and started playing random shit at the same time.

Finally after waaaaayyyyyyyy too much waiting, Amon Amarth, Sweden's Viking themed Melo-Death band, who played a sweet set (Valhalla Awaits, Death In Fire, Runes to My Memory, Cry of the Black Birds, Pursuit of Vikings for those who care). I also got to meet and get some stuff signed by Amon, they were really cool guys, funny accents, talked to them about songwriting Cheesy.

Chimaira played a really good set, i was rather impressed, they were definately top 5.

Gwar Were entertaining for about 10-15 minutes, then the entertainment of getting sprayed with fake blood and other colored liquids faded and it seemed like all they were doing was finding new things to cut up and make spray the audience, so i ditched them early to get my shit from coatcheck.

So in order from best to least best, my Top 5 would be:
1. Goatwhore (Blackened-Death)
2. Amon Amarth (Melo-Death)
3. 2 Cents (Thrash)
4. Chimaira (Metalcore)
5. Job For A Cowboy (Grindcore)

If you can sit through the hours of crappy metalcore and stupid scene kids who dont know how to mosh (i got punched in the nose 30 seconds in) then this concert has some AMAZING bands to check out.

Metalcore is a great genre, unfortunately I cannot disagree with the fact that there are quite a few random assed crappy metalcore bands that seem to pop up and find concerts to play in all the time.  And yeah, Chimaira pwns.

i like some metalcore... but theres just SOOOO much of it, and a lot of bands sound the same so like 5 metalcore bands in a row is just overkill
