New FSOTM: Primordial - Empire Falls
So I've had Primordial's latest album "To The Nameless Dead" kicking around my itunes/ipod for a while now, but for the longest time nothing really jumped out at me.. until now that is, in the last 2 weeks i haven't been able to stop listening to it, specifically this song, "Empire Falls".

Primordial are an Irish Folk/Black metal band, with "screamed" vocals used sparingly, mainly used to salt and pepper the rough, yet clean vocals. The music isn't crazy blasterbation at 108342907238947 bpm with droning high pitched guitars, but rather it is driving and melodic, powerful where it needs to be and easing up when it fits.

The lyrics are based largely on ancestry and history and are rather interesting (not to mention decipherable). This song in particular speaks of the importance of retaining the truth, rather than modifying your history to make yourself seem like a greater person.

Anywho, go listen, lyrics and link below, enjoy.

A cold wind is blowing
Through the graves it is blowing
And it bares a poisoned tongue
And the foul breath of deceit

I am my fathers son
And his deeds
Cannot be undone... be undone

You trade in his blood
Writing your history
In the sacrifices of the dead

Where is the fighting man?
Am I he?
You would trade every truth
For hollow victories

Every empire will fall
Every monument crumble
Forgotten men who watch the centuries

Whose silent words
Rise up in betrayal
We will rise up in betrayal

Where is the fighting man?
Am I he?
You would trade every truth
For hollow victories

Every empire falls
And the earth to ashes turn
The lands of my birth
Shall be my tomb

The are the lands, the lands of my birth
Soon to be ruins, the ruins of my past
And when the sky should fall
The earth to ashes turn
Then you know they shall be my tomb

Where is the fighting man?
I am he
You would trade every truth
For hollow victories

This has a pretty cool sound to it.  Nothing that I'm pooping my pants over, but I'd like to check out more from them.  Kind of reminds me of Mastadon but not as crappy, haha.

I especially liked the end of the song and "You would trade every truth for hollow victories" is pretty bad ass.

This is definitely a good album, dudes and dudettes.  It's not typical sounding black metal, it's a lot more mellow.  I likes it.

I was never a religious man
So why should I put my faith in you?
You burned your bridges a long time ago
I'm a heathen, searching for his soul

fuck yes it is awesome
