I've been using linux off and on since the mid 90s, and I've worked for a major financial institution for the past ~10 years, so I may be able to share some perspectives with you guys that you may not have considered.

First: uneven pavement, there are thousands of reasons to use linux, and your oversimplification does not help anyone.
Second: There are many reasons why corporations will use inferior products that they have to pay for, the most common reasons I've heard is for continued support and legal indemnification. Also, some people in high ranks are resistant to the idea of source code being open and changable by the public, but that mentality is 5 years old and people are coming around.
Third: As a core product, GIMP is supperior to Photoshop. They even have wrappers that re-skin GIMP exactly like photoshop so you don't need to feel like you wasted all that time learning archaeic photoshop commands to learn the archaeic GIMP commands. Neither is intuitive, don't kid yourself. The thing photoshop has for it is well established filters for sale / piracy that extend the power of the core product immensely.
Fourth: Linux is complicated but extremely efficient and as robust as windows. Ubuntu has done a lot to make it accessible, but it has done so by making it universally generic and a lot of efficiency is lost. The distrobution chosen has huge impact into your ability to manage the OS and how efficient it is.
Fifth: Gaming works in linux, but it's not easy to do. See fourth point. After 4 months of tinkering I've gotten WoW to be playable in linux, but could not get vent to work. I'm sure it's come a long way since then as that was like 3-4 years ago.

I enjoy it, I still use it, but it's not a lazy person's OS. If you can't take the time to tune your windows box and understand how it works, then you definitely would not be good for Linux.

This is the main reason I like it Mags.  Yes, you run into problems but it's hardly ever anything that can't be fixed...and by fixing it you learn A LOT!  Fun stuff.

Also... vent works now.
