Tell your friends to get some skill and l2p.  My problem with fighting games is that skill =/= winning in anything other than straight dueling.
That's how it is in any game... why wouldn't 1v1 be the best means of showing skill? It always is. It's better that way. There's nothing better than man versus man, with no interference. You have no team mates to blame things on, no random bullshit to bitch at. It's just you, and him. And the best man wins, and you grow by those wins and losses. It's not only the most gratifying, but the most educational. |

well in SSBM falcos playstyle had very little dodging and blocking : \ spam lasers until they get hit and smash em up and blow em out of the water from there : \ but in brawl thats all gone now, its just about exchanging attacks almost, there isn't much hit factor anymore either, you hit someone and they go up, no more pushing them down if you get the right angle and such. 1v1s are the best test of skill, and the best way to learn. thats how i learned to do everything in SSBM, i caught on wavedashing, shield grabbing, and dash canceling. it took me a while to get a hang on it, but when u see it you can learn it. right now, my biggest problem is my friend playing as ice climbers, their grabs are just too >.< pikachu dies at like 100%, so iceclimbers grab combos are just devastating, but i'm learning.

I am not arguing that 1v1 isnt the best means of showing skill because it is. But i am saying if you take pretty much take any multiplayer FPS on the computer, and a person with no skill wll never win against people with moderate or high skill. I cant remember the last time i lost a quake / wow / whatever game to someone randomly pressing button on their keyboard. =) I know thats not the same as a console fighting game, but serisously I will beat any noob in a q3 FFA every time. |

it's not any different in smash, its like that now in brawl because the game is new, but it wasnt like that in melee and once brawl has a more established user base it wont be any different imo

But brawl still has tactics and people are finding new shit every day, so whether or not brawl becomes as in-depth as melee will only really be able to be seen in a year or so, as the community learns new things. i think melee will always be better but who knows, hopefully they prove me wrong.

I agree but melee will always have the speed play which in my opinion is what made it so fun. |

I learned a lot of the simple shit from playing days and days of Super Smash Bros. (nothing else, N64 holla). Nothing like trying to get back to the stage when Kirby and Ness jump off to meteor you, and a Link bomb is flying over them to catch you =( Very rarely did I succeed, but as I got better, me "luck" with returning would get me back more and more. Then melee came out, and my friends didn't read attacks at all, and didn't know how to deal with never being able to hit me. It got to the point I would play right-handed only to make the game fair, at least until I had 1 life when I would try more.
NO JULIAN, NOT THE TIMES WE FOUGHT EACH OTHER. FUCK JIGGLY ROLL, FUCK IT HARD. ANALLY. FUCK.
Unfortunately I haven't been playing Brawl nearly as much anymore, and I definitely need to find some people in the dorms that play, so that when I get a chance to play against Willy and co. I don't suck huge donkey dick when it comes time to throw down.
