There are oh-so-many CDs that I never get a chance to review because I don't feel that I have listened to them enough to fully give them a fair review, so I'm going to start doing some "Check Out"'s to give people a heads up on new (or even old, in this case) shit that I think is cool at the moment. Think of this as a poor rip off of VH1's "You Oughta Know", only better, because I'm doing it.

The Postal Service - Give Up
This material isn't new by any means, it came out in 2003, but I was just made aware of it the other day by some co-workers of mine. Amazingly enough, something that someone I worked with played WASN'T shitty. Imagine that? Hey look, over there! Pigs are flying and the average penis size is 10'' or more! Ahem.
This CD is pretty addicting so far. What you basically have here is the lead singer of "Death Cab For Cutie" and a host of special appearances from various other artists from Rilo Kiley to Fart-Face McBob (I made one of those names up). The Band is called The Postal Service because most of the music was shared between artists via the... POSTAL SERVICE. It's mail-music, people, and it's first class. Oh ho, I am so clever. Foofelz. Anyway, essentially this music can be described as Techno-Pop-Funk-Electronica-Emo-Happy-SadPanda-Poetic-BleepingSounds. Very scratchy and drummy with popping and loads of distortion.
I'm not even sure that you could classify some of this as "music", more or less just strange sounds with an underlying bass track and some good vocals over the top of it all. Which, speaking of vocals, I think that the vocalist Ben Gibbard could probably sing over the sound of someone taking the shittiest diarrhea shit in the world and I would still love it. The guy sounds like a pre-pubescent 12 year old midget but I love the sound of his voice. ...but enough about diarrhea and pre-pubescent midgets...
This is great stuff to just kick back and listen to, and I've been chilling with this as ambiance for a few days now-- plus it has good lyrics to boot. Check it out.
