Protest the Hero is very top 5 for me.  Very close to godlike.  Very much the coolest thing ever in my opinion.  Right up there with Metallica and Bleeding Through and 36 Crazyfists and the like, in terms of awesome-a-tude.

Their first Album "Kezia" is the single most unique, different, technical, emotional, kickass, outsidethebox pwnage that I have heard in... well, ever.  I would have reviewed it a thousand times by now if I weren't so afraid of not doing it justice.  It's just so amazingly awesome.  Plus I'm pretty sure it would break my ratings scale and get like, all 15's or something.  It's just about the best fucking album ever.  Go buy it!  Moving on...

Anyway, these guys have a new album coming out on January 29th called "Fortress" and I could not possibly be more excited about it.  The single is called "Bloodmeat".  Check it out.

The story of Kezia is amazing.  It's told in three parts from the perspective of three characters, 3 songs per character, with a 10th song at the end.  It's about a girl who has been imprisoned and sentenced to death for a crime that isn't at all worthy of such a punishment.  The characters are the Prison Priest, the Prison Guard/Executioner, and the girl/Prisoner (whose name is Kezia).  Be sure to check up on the lyrics if you are giving it a shot, because they are spectacular.  Each character has their own struggle and issues throughout the album and the final song on the album is a summary of each of the 3 characters and what has happened.

There are no refrains, no choruses.  Each song is completely different from beginning to end, with very little repetition.  It's just... well it's more fantastic than I could ever hope to put into words.

I like the album.

I wouldn't quite say its the best thing since sliced bread, but its a solid album, especially in a genre i tend to greatly dislike.

Thanks will  Grin

It will grow on you sir!  Smiley  I thought it was mediocre for about 2 or 3 weeks myself.  Then I became an addict, haha.  But glad you enjoy it, I'm kinda surprised you liked it too, since it's kind of "singy" for your tastes.  What an amazing display of range that guy has though, god damn, it's like nothing I've ever heard before.

It's definitely one of the best metalcore albums i've listened to.
My personal favorite is the new Unearth one, having seen them twice live and them putting on possibly the best performance of any band i've seen left a lasting impression.
